Exercise Tip
THE BOSU
Many of you may have noticed the new dome shaped half fit ball with a solid base at the gym. This is the BOSU. This piece of equipment is a relatively new training aid that focuses on balance, coordination and strength. Whilst performing standard resistance training exercises on the BOSU the bodies neuromuscular system (balancing) is subjected to a whole new range of forces.
These new forces are fantastic for improving core conditioning, balance, coordination and whole body muscle recruitment.
There are a wide range of abdominal, back, core, upper and lower body exercises that can be done on the BOSU so see a trainer to find out how effective this latest fitness product can be!
A workout a day keeps colds at bay!
A new study published in the American Journal of Medicine has found that otherwise sedentary individuals who partake in moderate exercise have fewer colds than their inactive counterparts.
Researchers at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center randomly assigned 115 overweight and obese, sedentary, postmenopausal female study participants to either a moderate exercise regimen or to a once-weekly stretching session.
The moderate exercise consisted mainly of brisk walking for 45 minutes a day for five days a week, and the stretching comprised one weekly 45 minute session. The participants were tracked for twelve months, and their health monitored through questionnaires which were filled out quarterly to record the occurrence of allergies, upper respiratory tract infections (colds and flu) and other infections.
Over the year-long study, the exercising group appeared to enjoy a decreased risk of suffering colds, whereas the incidence of colds in the stretching group actually increased slightly. During the last quarter of the study, the stretchers risk of colds increased to 3 times the rate of that in the exercising group. Throughout the year study 48 per cent of stretchers reported colds compared to 30 per cent of exercisers.
Cornelia M. Ulrich, PhD, senior author of the study, said; ‘although we did not find an effect overall on upper respiratory tract infections, our study suggests that moderate-intensity training can reduce the risk of colds in postmenopausal, non-smoking, overweight or obese women. This finding is of clinical relevance and adds a new facet to the growing literature on the health benefits of moderate exercise.’

ODYSSEY HEALTH CLUB & SPA
Ultimate Fat Loss Program For Members
Over the past few months the Odyssey trainers and I have been reviewing the latest health and fitness literature, attending seminars with some of the best sports scientists and physical trainers in the world and re-working my own 100 page manual compiled over the last 15 years with one goal in mind. To develop the ultimate FAT LOSS and BODY TONING program possible.
Well I believe that I now have completed that program and now I want to give every Odyssey Health Club Member the chance to do it!
How it works!
The program is a comprehensive 12 month plan that incorporates 2-3 weights workouts and 2-3 cardio workouts per week. Obviously, the better results will come from people able to do 6 sessions per week but I realise that in the real world this is not often possible. But to take part in the program you must commit to at least 4 sessions per week if you expect to get the complete results!
The program is broken up into 5 x 10-11 week periods with each of these 11 week periods broken down further into 4 wk, 4wk, 2wk & 1wk mini programs. This keeps variety high and the body constantly being challenged. A major key to the program’s success.
How to get started – The program is simple but it is essential you receive professional instruction for some exercises as they can be dangerous if performed incorrectly. So in each 11 week period you will receive 2 x 60-75min personal training sessions (1 each at the beginning of each 4 week block). You will also be able to call on the trainer at any time if you have programming questions.
Cost – As a special promotion I am going to give all members the complete 12mth program with diagrams & descriptions, 2 x 60-75min personal training sessions per 11 weeks, a comprehensive nutritional plan and on-going trainer support for ONLY $99 per month.
If you have been struggling to get the results – this program may be the answer you have been looking for.
